Curious about pottery but not sure where to start? This taster session is the perfect introduction — you'll get hands-on time with two of the core techniques every potter learns, all in one relaxed 90-minute session.  This session works beautifully for total beginners and is family-friendly (7+, adult attendance required).

Build on the wheel
We'll spend 45 minutes at the potter's wheel, where you'll learn the basics of centring and shaping clay. It's a bit of a wobble at first for most people — that's completely normal — and our instructors will be right there to help you find your rhythm. Most people come away having thrown 1–3 pots by the end of the throwing part of the taster. 

Build by hand
For the second half of the class, you'll spend 45 minutes building at a slower, more considered pace using a coiling technique. You'll shape one vessel by hand — a small vase, a trinket dish, or a bowl — with plenty of room to decorate and personalise it as you go. Whatever you make will be truly your own.

Some people take to the wheel more naturally; others find they prefer the calm, tactile process of hand-building — this class lets you try both and see what clicks. It's a great choice for couples, friends, colleagues, or parents and children working side by side, whether you're looking for a relaxed couple of hours together or your first proper introduction to ceramics.

Age: 7+, All children under the age of 13 must book with an adult. 

What to bring: All tools and an aprons are provided. 

What to wear:  Clay is messy, so we encourage casual dress when possible.  The stoneware clay used in this class will brush or wash off of most fabrics relatively easily.
