Learn to throw, from centring to a finished piece
This summer, get properly hands-on with the pottery wheel. Our Young Potter's Wheel Throwing Intensive Course runs as two separate 3-session courses, each covering the full process — from wedging and centring to shaping, trimming, and decorating.
Choose one or both courses:
| Course | Dates |
|---|---|
| Course 1 | 23rd July 2-4 pm, 30th July & 6th August 1-3 pm |
| Course 2 | 13th August, 20th August, & 27th August 1-3 pm |
Each course (3 sessions × 2 hours):
- Session 1 – new students will learn to centre, open up, and pulling up walls with instructor guidance; repeat students will continue to practice with less guidance
- Session 2 – all students will practice centring, opening up, and pulling up walls with greater independence; introduction to turning pots (carving a foot, taking off excess clay) for new students.
- Session 3 - turning, trimming and decorating all pots created in session 1/2.
Course includes up to 4-pieces fired and glazed; additional pieces £5 per piece. We can glaze the pots or students can return for an assisted glazing session where they can choose their own colours for an additional fee (£25 per session).
No experience needed to join the course and each course is self-contained, so you can join any single course or come back for more. Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.
Price: £139 per 3-session course
Age: 13-17
What to bring: All tools and an aprons are provided.
What to wear: Clay is messy, so we encourage casual dress when possible. The stoneware clay used in this class will brush or wash off of most fabrics relatively easily.

Accessibility: We pride ourselves in being accessible. We have a ramped entrance for those with limited mobility and a ground floor toilet. All of our pottery wheels can be operated by hand or foot. We encourage you to contact us to discuss your specific needs prior to booking.
