Experience the drama and unpredictability of Raku firing from start to finish. This workshop includes your choice of two Raku clay vessels and all materials for creating your own unique Raku designs.  No experience necessary.  This workshop welcomes adults who wants to experience a Raku firing in action, from complete beginner through to seasoned potter.

At the start of the workshop, you will be given a short introduction to Raku and then you will spend up to one hour glazing and decorating your vessels in the pottery studio, choosing from 13 Raku glazes, with copper wire available to add during the initial firing.

We'll then head next door for refreshments followed by two kiln firings. Raku kilns are unpredictable by nature, so this stage can take anywhere from 1.5 to 4 hours depending on how quickly they reach temperature. As your pieces come out of the kiln, you'll have the chance to use copper dust, sugar, feathers, and horsehair to create unique markings.

We encourage everyone to get hands-on in the firing process, so please wear closed-toe shoes and casual clothing that covers your arms and legs and won't mind a bit of smoke.

PS. If the workshop overruns and you're unable to stay for the full firing process, don't worry — we'll keep your pieces safe for you to collect later!

Cost: £135 per person.  Minimum price equivalent to 5 attendees (£675) although smaller groups are welcome at this price.  Maximum of 10 attendees. 

Age: 12+ (minors must be accompanied by an adult)

What to bring: All tools and aprons are provided. 

What to wear:  We encourage casual dress as clay, glaze and smoke can make for a messy afternoon.  Close toed shoes, long sleeves and long pants are encouraged for all, but absolutely required for adults who wants to get hands-on with the firing.
